โœฆ Synopsis

Cypress Semiconductors tests SOFC power

In California, Cypress Semiconductors plans to install what will be the San Francisco Bay Area's first fuel cell power generator, in the fall. The 5 kWe SOFC power plant is being produced by Ion America Corporation, based near Sunnyvale, according to a report in the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal.

The Cypress installation is a demonstration project to see the feasibility of the product; the company is a minority investor in Ion America.

Last summer the US Office of Naval Research awarded Ion America a $2.7m contract to develop advanced SOFC stack components for primary and regenerative stationary applications [FCB, July 2004].
