✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Infrared absorption of n‐type indium selenide is studied in the 2.5 to 50 ΞΌm spectral range at 300 Β°K. Lattice absorption peaks are observed between 25 and 50 ΞΌm. Tin‐doped samples with an electron concentration higher than 10^16^ cm^βˆ’3^ exhibit free carrier absorption for Ξ» larger than 10 ΞΌm. The experimental results are interpreted by the quantum theory of free carrier absorption. Quantitative account of absorption coefficients is given by introducing homopolar optic phonon and ionized impurity scattering.

The free-carrier absorption in n-type InSb films has been investigated for carriers confined in quasi-two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors with the nonparabolic energy band of electrons. We discuss the effect of phonon scattering on the free-carrier absorption coefficient (~) for both deformation-pot
