✦ Synopsis

The extension of embedded elliptical cracks by fatigue is predicted on the basis of the stress-intensity factors given by Isida and Noguchi and the ASME-Code. The calculation is performed until wall penetration and the further extension of the developed surface crack is considered.

## Abstract Based on results of a previous paper [1] a general formula for the development of the shape of surface cracks is presented. In case of tension an analytical solution is presented, which allows a very easy parameter study. For other loading conditions solutions can be obtained, using num
