✦ Synopsis
We have derived expressions of second-order effective Hamiltonian parameters of XY4 molecules in the tetrahedral formalism (1992, J. P. Champion et al., "Spectroscopy of the Earth's Atmosphere and Interstellar Medium: Spherical Top Spectra," Academic Press, San Diego). They are written as a function of the force constants of the potential expanded in terms of the dimensionless normal coordinates. These expressions can be used in the isolated band scheme as well as in the polyad one. The ambiguity of the effective Hamiltonian parameters is treated. Relations between the parameters for q2 and q4 terms and Hecht's anharmonicity constants (1960, K. T. Hecht, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 5, 355-389) in the isolated band scheme are established. Relations between Coriolis coupling coefficients in tetrahedral XY4 molecules are evaluated, using the method of Ca and related matrices. It appears that the Coriolis coupling may be studied in terms of two independent Coriolis coefficients, e.g. CN and <a. For these two quantities explicit equation
We present a development of the Hamiltonian, dipole moment, and polarizability operators of XY 5 Z (C 4v ) molecules using a tensorial formalism derived from the one developed previously in Dijon for XY 6 molecules. These operators are involved in the calculation of the energies and intensities of r
The stretching vibration-rotation Hamiltonian of tetrahedral molecules is derived in the local-mode model. The result shows that the effective rotational Hamiltonian of a local-mode state gives rise to symmetric-top rotational energy levels, which are quantitatively in good agreement with experiment
