✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The use of the CO~2~ laser in liver surgery is mainly limited by the lack of coagulation of the larger vessels. In an experimental study, partial liver resections were performed on pigs with a Nd:YAG as well as with a combined CO~2~ and Nd: YAG laser. The best cutting efficiency was obtained with the CO~2~ laser. On the other hand, the Nd:YAG laser and the combined laser sources showed excellent hemostasis at the cutting edge corresponding with a width of necrosis at about 5 mm in histomorphometric examination and zones with histologically different characteristics. Rebleedings from the resection lines were avoided in all cases using the combined CO~2~ and Nd:YAG laser.

## Abstract Twenty‐eight partial nephrectomies were performed on nine pigs with a simultaneous, coaxial CO~2~‐Nd:YAG laser at power settings of 20 W and 40 W, or with a steel scalpel. A vascular pedicle clamp was used without renal cooling. The time for hemostasis was 4.5 Β± 3.2 min (mean Β± SD) with

In this paper we report on the characterization of a diode-side-pumped Nd:YAG rod laser operating at 300 W CW output power. The simulated and measured pump energy distributions in the crystal are compared. The thermal lens effect of the Nd:YAG have been experimentally investigated, and its influence

## Abstract ## Background Lipopolysaccharides mediate inflammation in liver ischaemia–reperfusion (I/R) and partial liver resection (PHX). Bovine intestinal alkaline phosphatase (BIAP) detoxifies lipopolysaccharides by dephosphorylation and reduces inflammation in models of sepsis. This study exam

Biochemical studies utilizing keloid fibroblast cultures revealed that Nd:YAG laser selectively suppressed collagen production by these cells. Based on these in vitro observations. eight patients with keloids were treated with Nd:YAG laser in a nondestructive manner. Results, with a 3-year follow-up
