✦ Synopsis
Abstract
7,12‐Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene and three of its metabolites were tested for carcinogenic activity by in vitro incubation with murine pulmonary tissue for 2 days followed by implantation of the explants into isologous mice. 7‐Hydroxymethyl‐12‐methylbenz(a) anthracene and 12‐hydroxymethyl‐7‐methylbenz(a) anthracene were as potently carcinogenic as the parent hydrocarbon but 7,12‐dihydroxymethylbenz(a)‐anthracene was inactive. These results are discussed in the light of current theories of metabolic activation of the hydrocarbon.

An important question regarding the use of transgenic reporter genes to detect mutation in rodents is how the types of mutations recovered in transgenes compare with the types of mutations found in endogenous genes. In this study, we examined mutations induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene in th
## Abstract 7,12‐Dimethylbenz[__a__]anthracene (7,12‐DMBA) is a member of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with a severe carcinogenic effect. In this study, nitrate levels and ADA (Adenosine deaminase) activity in the liver homogenates of mice were measured and the effect of free radicals induc
## BACKGROUND. The surface epithelium of the human ovary simulates the mu ¨llerian form in tumor formation. In experimental animals, however, such a phenomenon has not previously been observed. ## METHODS. A chemical carcinogen, 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA), was heated, and the central p
