Twenty five cyclic and α‐cyclic thioketones were examined by mass spectrometry. Compared with the oxygen analogues, the thioketones yielded a higher proportion of molecular ions. The loss of •SH was found to be a characteristic fragmentation of cyclic and α‐cyclic thioketones as for aliphatic thioke

✦ Synopsis
An examination of the mass spectra of aliphatic thioketones at 70 eV has shown some differences between these compounds and the corresponding ketones: the molecular ions of the thioketones were stronger than those of the ketones, indicating the greater ability of the sulfur atom to stabilise the radical cation; the loss of ^•^SH was found to be a characteristic fragmentation of aliphatic thioketones.

## Abstract The fragmentation modes of 3‐benzoyloxy‐cyclopentene and of 4‐benzoyloxy‐cyclopentene have been studied on deuterium‐labelled analogues. A mathematical model is proposed for the study of the rearrangement reactions which occur during the expulsion of H~2~O and of \documentclass{article}
