The title compound, C~10~H~11~ClN~2~O~2~, crystallizes with two independent, but essentially identical molecules in the asymmetric unit. Each planar molecule is in the E configuration about the C=N bond. Intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds link molecules into a one-dimensional chain aligned along the [101] direction.
