✦ Synopsis
The title compound, C 12 H 10 ClNO 2 , was synthesized by the reaction of ethyl cyanocaetate with 4-chlorobenzaldehyde in ethanol under microwave irradiation. In the crystal structure, weak intermolecular C-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds link the molecules into centrosymmetric dimers, which are held together by van der Waals forces.

In the title compound, C~17~H~12~ClN~3~O~5~, the benzene rings are twisted out of the central –C~ar~–C–C(–CN)–C(=O)–N–plane. The dihedral angles between this plane and the aromatic planes are 31.2 (4) and 4.8 (3)°. The C=C double bond is in an __E__ configuration.
In the molecule of the title compound, C 15 H 13 ClN 2 O 4 , the pyrimidine and benzene rings form a dihedral angle of 69.3 (3) . Nostacking interactions are observed in the crystal structure.
