Heregulin P1 was found to stimulate the anchorage-dependent, serum-free growth of nontransformed human MCF-1 OA mammary epithelial cells. Unlike epidermal growth factor, transforming growth factor a, or amphiregulin, heregulin P I was also able to induce the anchorage-independent growth of MCF-1OA c

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
MUC1 mucin is a heavily Oβglycosylated transmembrane protein that is aberrantly expressed in many carcinomas, including breast cancer. In the present study, the effect of signaling generated from the ErbβB2 homodimer as a result of transcription of the MUC1 gene was investigated in human mammary epithelial cell lines (MTSV1β7 and Hb2) stably transfected with a pBAT/trkβneu construct in which the extracellular domain of ErbβB2 was replaced with the corresponding domain from the nerve growth factor (NGF) receptor. In this system, NGF stimulated homodimerization of ErbβB2 and phosphorylation of its intracellular domain. MTSV1β7/trkβneu and Hb2/trkβneu cells were transiently transfected with a construct in which the MUC1 promoter caused expression of a CAT reporter gene, and were then treated with NGF. These studies showed that MUC1 expression was inhibited by NGF treatment in both cell lines, suggesting that its expression can be regulated by signals resulting from the homodimerization of ErbβB2.

## Abstract We have shown that the bacterial iron chelator, deferoxamine (DFO), triggers inflammatory signals including the production of CXC chemokine ILβ8, in human intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) by activating the ERK1/2 and p38 kinase pathways. In this study we investigated the mechanisms in
In the footnote to Table III, the units for glutathione-S-transferase activity were reported as pmol substrate conjugated/ min/mg protein. This should have been nmol, not pmol. The corrected version of Table III is given below.
