## Abstract An SV40‐transformed BSC‐1 cell line (BSC‐SV Cl 1.1), that had been cloned twice under SV40 antiserum, sporadically produced small amounts of SV‐40 virus spontaneously. Most of the cells contained a defective virus genome, while some contained a non‐defective virus genome which was not r

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Extracts of green monkey kidney cells enhance the transformation of mouse cells by SV40. An enhancing activity is also detected in cell extracts from human embryonic lung, mouse embryo or hamster embryo cells. The activity of green monkey kidney cell extract is sensitive to trypsin, but not deoxyribonuclease, ribonuclease or heating at 56° C for 30 min. Since the extract has no effect on early events such as virus adsorption, penetration, uncoating and T antigen formation, the enhancing factor(s) may act on the other processes required for transformation.

## Abstract A series of clonal lines (mKS‐U) of mouse kidney cells transformed by UV‐irradiated SV40 have been propagated serially in medium containing 5‐bromodeoxyuridine (dBU). Most of the mKS‐U lines became resistant to dBU during serial passage and became deficient in thymidine (dT) kinase acti
