Values of average energy transferred, (AC). and average energy loss, (h),, per collision were calculated from classical trajectories for collinear A*+ M collisions in which A2 is highly vibrationally excited. Results were compared with those from the singleencounter impulsive collision model, from three-dimensional trajectories for atom-polyatom collisions and from experiments which studied collisions of polyatoms with atoms and with other polyatoms. A number of similarities were noted, in particular,' wide ranges of temperature Z'wherein (A+ and (As)4 vary slowly with T.
