## Crystal polarization energies are calculated at several temperatures for Xe. Kr. Ar and Ne and at several DreSSUreS for He. These results are used to estimate energies of the quasi-free electron staate from spktroscopic data for Xe, Kr. and Ar.

Absorption and photoemission spectra of naphthalene-rare gas matrices are reported. Bands arising from transitions to the n = 2.3 impurity Wannier states of naphthalene in this condensed system are observed. Photoinjection experiments show that the energy Ve of the quasi-free electron in methane is negative at all densities from the dilute gas to the solid with a minimum roughly coinciding with the mobility maGrmtm\_ The results are in qualitative agreement with the Springett-Jortner-Cohen model and wit
We provide an estimate of the energy of the bottom of the conduction band in golid Ne and consider the implications of this result for electron localization ia liquid Ne. The energy, Vo , of the quasi-free electron state [l] in the bottom of the conduction band and of a non-polar dense fluid or a si
