✦ Synopsis

Recent reports have documented human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) as a cause of high fever, bone marrow depression, and rash in liver transplant recipients in the absence of another known pathogen. We describe a 49-year-old liver transplant recipient who developed confusion, occipital headache, and involuntary movements of the limbs 3 weeks after orthotopic liver transplantation. HHV-6 was detected in the peripheral blood using a rapid culture assay. Examination of cere-brospinal fluid by polymerase chain reaction for HHV-6 was also positive. No other pathogens were identified. The patient improved after commencement of intravenous ganciclovir therapy. This case suggests HHV-6 needs to be considered in the differential diagnosis of unexplained confusion in liver transplant recipients.

## Abstract Whereas human herpesvirus 6 (HHV‐6) reactivation is frequent in solid organ transplant recipients, symptomatic disease is rare. A case of colitis associated with HHV‐6B reactivation was observed in a lung transplant recipient. This case report suggests that symptomatic HHV‐6 infection m

To analyze human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) infection in adult living related liver transplantation, we performed a virological analysis, including viral isolation, serological assay, and real-time polymerase chain reaction, of serially collected blood samples from 67 recipients. After primary infection in early life, human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) remains latent in the body and may reactivate in subjects with poor immune status. A 180-day longitudinal study of HHV-6 infection was carried out in 23 autologous bone marrow transplant recipients to evaluate reactivation of HHV-6;

## Abstract Previous studies have suggested a neuroinvasive and neuropersistent potential of human herpesvirus 7 (HHV‐7). In this report, a case of fatal encephalitis is described and its association with HHV‐7 infection is discussed. An 8‐year‐old girl received a peripheral blood stem cell transpl

We tested the hypothesis that religiosity (ie, seeking God's help, having faith in God, trusting in God, and trying to perceive God's will in the disease) is associated with improved survival in patients with end-stage liver disease who have undergone orthotopic liver transplantation. We studied a g
