✦ Synopsis

A description is given of an ellipsometer, automated by means of computersteered stepping motors. Conversion of analyzer and polarizer readings into thickness and refractive index is done by a graphic procedure on (A,$)-+ (n,d) conversion plots. The method is tested by means of Langmuir-Blodgett monolayers of barium stearate. Adsorption of fibrinogen and albumin onto hydrophilic and hydrophobic chromium surfaces, the interaction of fibrinogen with anti-fibrinogen, and the interaction of albumin with anti-albumin are shown as illustrations of the technique.

## Abstract The application of ellipsometry of the study of the adsorption behavior of proteins and synthetic macromolecules at the air‐water interface has been investigated. It is shown that for macromolecules the amount adsorbed per unit area, Ξ“, as determined by ellipsometry, only has a well‐def
