We have studied the X-ray photoelectron spectra of MOO:-, WOZ-, ReO, and OsOz-in various of their salts. We find a reasonably good agreement between our results and the predictions of calculations, both as to the position and the cornposition of the levels. The agreement can be improved substantiall
