✦ Synopsis


We have studied the X-ray photoelectron spectra of MOO:-, WOZ-, ReO, and OsOz-in various of their salts. We find a reasonably good agreement between our results and the predictions of calculations, both as to the position and the cornposition of the levels. The agreement can be improved substantially by supposing that the levels which have considerabIe d amplitude are subject to larger rearrangement effects than are the levels which are localized on oxygen atoms. This supposition finds support in Mrious other lines of evidence.

We report here studies on the valence region X-ray photoelectron spectrum of some 4d and 5d oxyanions:
