β¦ Synopsis
Low energy (0-6 eV) electron attachment to clusters composed of SF 6 and N 2 yields (SF6) ~-and anionic complexes containing SF 6 and N 2. The energy profile for the formation of these anions indicates strong contributions due to inelastic electron scattering via the N2(zFI) resonance followed by intracluster electron transfer. This scattering feature peaks near 2 eV at low stagnation pressure and is shifted to 1.5 eV at 7 bar. The significant shift of the N~-resonance towards lower energy with respect to the gas phase (2.3 eV) is due to the solvation of N~-and the electron transfer behavior between N 2 and SF 6.

We report here on the detection of (SFs),,.X-(X= SFs, SF+ SFs) ions which form by electron attachment to SF6 clusters in a molecular beam. The formation of some species, e.g. SFs,SFF with resonances at 6 and 10 eV, is unexpected because attachment to the bare SF, molecule does not yield the analogou
The gas-phase clustering reactions of SF~, SF 6 and F-ions with SF 6 were measured using a high-pressure mass spectrometer. The bond energies of SFs--(SF6) 1 and SF6(SF6) 1 were estimated to be ~< 2.3 kcal/mol. The bond energies of F-(SF6) , with n = 1 and 2 were determined to be 5.4 and = 4.1 kcal/
Anions of mixed clusters, X (HCN) ,,, (X = C2H50H, Cot, O2 and SF,), were produced by collisional electron transfer from high-Rydberg Kr atoms and were detected by mass spectrometry. For C2H50H(HCN),, the major product ions were cluster anions CN-(HCN),CIH50H, while in the case of X (HCN), with X =
An additional electron attachment resonance peak, not observable in pure oxygen cluster anions, has been found at an energy of about 11.5 eV for both the stoichiometric Arm (O2)n and the nonstoichiometric Arm (O2)n\_ i Ocluster anions (produced by electron attachment to mixed argon-oxygen clusters).
