✦ Synopsis

Anions of mixed clusters, X (HCN) ,,, (X = C2H50H, Cot, O2 and SF,), were produced by collisional electron transfer from high-Rydberg Kr atoms and were detected by mass spectrometry. For C2H50H(HCN),, the major product ions were cluster anions CN-(HCN),CIH50H, while in the case of X (HCN), with X = CO*, 02, and SFs, ions X-(HCN). were produced. The results demonstrate that the excess electron introduced in the mixed clusters is captured preferentially by the molecule which forms an anionic core with a larger energy release.
