✦ Synopsis
The primary steps of triplet state (Tt) sensitization of singlet oxygen O,('Z;) and Oa('4) by phenalenone (PH) and benzophettone (BP) have been investigated in carbon tetrachloride by time-resolved measurements of the phosphorescence of T1, O,( 'X: ) and O,( 'As). Besides lifetimes, the detailed analysis of the transient curves yields absolute efkiencies a of O,( 5: ) and b ofO,(tAs) formation in the primary energy transfer step from T, to 0s. For PH a~0.62 and bz0.37, for BP a=O. 11 and b= 0.26 were found. Collisional deactivation of O,('Z:) by carbon tetrachloride, benzene, cyclohexane, trimethylpentane and methanol produces Os( 'As) with efftciency ~20.95.
