✦ Synopsis

Abstract

It has been shown that the mammalian activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) is involved in many different physiological events, such as eye development, stress response, learning, and memory. However, several recent studies have demonstrated that ATF4 also plays an important role in the regulation of lipid and glucose metabolism, energy homeostasis, insulin secretion, and sensitivity, suggesting that ATF4 is a master regulator of metabolism. This review summarizes the most recent progress in the understanding of the novel roles of ATF4 in the regulation of metabolism. Β© 2012 IUBMB IUBMB Life, 2012.

Bone cells are a prime target for the biological function of the fos/jun (activating protein-1 (AP-1)) transcription factor complex. Deregulated expression of c-fos or v-fos in bone cells induces tumorigenicity and the formation of non-metastatic osteosarcomas. In contrast, fos oncogenes transform f

Monopterus albus has to deal with high environmental ammonia concentrations during dry seasons and agricultural fertilization in rice fields. In this study, NH 4 HCO 3 (10 mmol per g fish) was injected into the peritoneal cavity of M. albus, raising the level of ammonia in the body, in order to eluc
