## Abstract Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was cultivated directly from whole blood treated with anticoagulant by cocultivation with phytohaemagglutinin‐stimulated cord blood lymphocytes. When heparin was used as the anticoagulant, isolation rates were low (10% to 56%, depending on the patient
