✦ Synopsis

A simplified equivalent circuit model of a dumbbell-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) is developed. The equivalent circuit model is derived from the equivalent inductance and capacitance, which develop because of the perturbed return current path on the ground and the narrow gap, respectively. The theory is validated against the commercial full-wave solver CST Microwave Studio. Finally, the calculated results are compared with the measured results. Good agreements between the theory, the commercially available numerical analyses and the experimental results validate the developed model. V

## Abstract This article deals with novel microstrip low‐pass filter (LPF) design method using defected ground structure (DGS). The DGS allows significant length reduction of inductive microstrip lines, thus overall filter dimensions are reduced. Chebyshev prototype filter design is described and c

## Abstract A compact triple U‐shaped slots etched on the microstrip ground are used to implement a novel low‐pass filter.A rectangular open stub and a radius stub are used to produce transmission zeros and thus result in wide stopband. Good low‐pass performance and wide stopband characteristics ca
