✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The design of a simple coplanar waveguide (CPW)‐fed inverted C‐shaped monopole antenna with symmetrical ground plane is initially proposed. Its dual band operation is able to cover the entire wireless local area network frequency spectrum at 2.4, 5.2, and 5.8 GHz. By simply tuning one of the CPW ground‐plane widths which results in an asymmetry ground plane structure, it is found that the impedance bandwidth for the upper band is doubled to 50.7% (2650 MHz). Furthermore, its lower band centered at around 2.4 GHz is only slightly varied with an impedance bandwidth of 9.2% (220 MHz). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
