The variation of the fluorescence intcnsity of olivomycin-stained yeast cells as a function of the concentrdtion of olivomycin, NaCI, and MgCI, in the staining solution was studied. The best results were obtained when the staining solution contained 100 pg olivomycin/ml, 40 mM MgC12, and 1 M NaCI.
