β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
DNA from the ayw subtype of hepatitis B virus (HBV) was ligated into the EcoRI site of DNA from plasmid pBR322 and propagated in E coli Ο1776. A plasmid with a 3200 base pair insert (pHBVβ1) was isolated and the cloned HBV DNA was mapped with restriction endonucleases. Differences were found in restriction endonuclease cleavage sites for DNAs from HBV of subtype ayw and adr.

## Abstract We have constructed a phage Ξ» library of liver DNA fragments from West African patient who died of liver failure due to advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Four hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNAβcarrying recombinants have been isolated, one clone (Ξ»Γ22) being analyzed in greatest detail. It co
