## Abstract The 8p11β21 region is a frequent target of alterations in breast cancer and other carcinomas. We surveyed 34 breast tumor cell lines and 9 pancreatic cancer cell lines for alterations of this region by use of multicolor fluorescence in situ hybridization (MβFISH) and BACβspecific FISH.

The zygosity of 19 colorectal carcinomas (either near-diploid or polyploid) from patients known to be heterozygous for RFLPs located on chromosome 18 or on the short arm of chromosome 17 has been examined. In most cases, at least one allele was significantly under-represented. The reason for the abs
The authors tested the effects of the antiestrogenic agent tamoxifen on telomerase activity and cell proliferation in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast carcinoma cell lines. MCF-7 cells belong to a known estrogen receptor positive cell line, whereas MDA-MB-231 cells, previously thought to be estrogen rece
