β¦ Synopsis
The singlet-triplet (Se+T, ) absorption of all-trans( 1,6-diphenyl)-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) has been made accessible for the first time without using external perturbation methods. It has been studied in DPH single crystals at high spectral resolution applying photoexcitation spectroscopy with cw dye lasers. Low temperature spectra of both monoclinic and orthorhombic crystalline phases have been obtained. The O-O transition is split into two components (d= 2.8 cm-' ), strongly polarized and possibly excitonic in nature.
