β¦ Synopsis
With the aid of a case report the efficacy of intravenous diazepam in depressive stupor for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes is described. This may enable use of conventional drug treatment and postpone or avoid use of electroconvulsive therapy.

Coprolalia arising for the first time in late life is an uncommon condition. This case report describes coprolalia in association with major depression in an elderly woman, whose symptoms were improved by a combination of tricyclic antidepressant and lithium.
'Spike-wave stupor' was observed in a 58-year-old male patient with manic-depressive psychosis.
