Mammalian flavin-containing monooxygenase functions in the oxygenation of numerous xenobiotics containing a soft nucleophile, usually a nitrogen or sulfur. A total of five distinct flavin monooxygenase (FMO) isoforms are expressed in mammals. Individual isoforms are expressed in a sex-, age-, and ti

Hepatic flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO) activity of microsomes from adult CD-1, Swiss-Webster, C57BL/6, and DBA/2 mice was found to be significantly higher in females than in males. Based on protein and mRNA levels in CD-1 mice, FMO forms responsible for the gender difference in FMO activity w
