β¦ Synopsis
A deuterium-induced phase transition has been discovered in a molecular crystal of tolane-d~o by powder X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) experiments. The phase transition is of first order. DSC measurements on solid binary solutions of tolane-h~o and tolane-d~o have shown that there is a critical point on the temperature-composition phase diagram of this binary system.

Liquid crystalline copolymers containing 4'-cyanobiphenyl-4-oxyundecylacrylate (CBO-1 I-A) groups and phenylazophenyloxy-undecylacrylate (ABO-I I-A) groups with various proportions were synthesized. The copolymers take a highly liquid crystalline state but the temperature range of liquid crystalline

Deuterium NMR spectra of solid norbomaned4 and norbomane-dz indicate that the hexagonal (hcp) c+ cubic (fee) phase-transition temperature in these compounds is elevated by 2S" and go over the value in noxbornane. Deuterium and 13C spin-lattice relaxation data iDLEate that the rotational coaelation t
