✦ Synopsis
Deuterium NMR spectra of solid norbomaned4 and norbomane-dz indicate that the hexagonal (hcp) c+ cubic (fee) phase-transition temperature in these compounds is elevated by 2S" and go over the value in noxbornane. Deuterium and 13C spin-lattice relaxation data iDLEate that the rotational coaelation times of norbornane+ and norbornzne are continuous across the hcpfee phase transition. however rotations of norbomane-d4 appear to be slower than those of norbornane. Jt is su=ested that translational diffusion of norbornane-d4 IS also slower znd that the. slower motions of norbornaneA, are at least in part responsible for the observed isotope effects.
