β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Four analogs of abscisic acid (ABA) with deuterium atoms at nonβexchangeable positions have been synthesized to be used as standards for quantitation of the plant hormone ABA by mass spectrometry and also to be employed as substrates for metabolism studies. Deuterium atoms were introduced in the side chain of the molecule, at Cβ4 and/or Cβ5, by deuteride or hydride reduction of a propargylic alcohol, an intermediate in the synthesis. As well, deuterium labels were introduced at the Cβ8β² position by conjugate addition of a Grignard reagent containing the label to a cyclohexadienone intermediate, affording specific isotopically labeled ABA molecules with one to five deuterium atoms. The mass spectrometry quantification and metabolic studies of leukotriene B 4 (LTB 4 ) in biological fluids require standards labelled with stable isotopes. This paper describes the synthesis of LTB 4 labelled with 13 C in positions 6, 7, 10 and 11 ( % 1). These labelled carbons come from 13 C 2 -ac
