✦ Synopsis


A simple flow-injection method for the automatic photometric determination of low concentrations of dissolved oxygen in waters was developed. The method uses Methylene Blue immobilized on a cationic exchange resin packed into a flow-cell located in the spectrophotometer, where the leuco form of the dye is formed by flowing a dithionite solution. The flow-through sensor thus prepared provides a response, the reliability of which depends on the oxygen content in the sample concerned. The linear calibration range accomplished was 0.9 to 5.5 mg I-' oxygen, with a relative standard deviation of 2.2-0.6% over this range; the sampling frequency was 18-22 hh'.
