✦ Synopsis

During the past few years a considerable amount of work has been reported on the identification and detection of sugars and their deriv:\tivcs by paper chromatography and thin-layer chromatography (1-12 ).

The periodate/benzidine reagent has been used to differentiate polyol:: from other sugars (13-15) and Bean and Porter ( 14) observed that panisidinc could replace benzidine for t'he same purpose. p-Anisidincphosphoric acid has been found to be a satisfactory reagent for diffcrentiating several classes of sugars, and also for serving as a color reagent for sialic acid compounds on paper chromatogrnms (15? 16). p-hnisidine-I)llosphatc in ethanol has been used as spray reagent for sugars (17, 181.

Certain deoxy sugars and aldehydes can be detected I);-using periodatcs ositlation followed by thiobarbituric acid (19)(20)(21) This report describes a method for the detection and differentiation of lu:my sugars and sugar derivatives by paper chromatography, bascl(l on their reaction with p-anisidine and sodium pcriodatc.

## Abstract In this work, a new flow injection chemiluminescence method is described for the determination of ampicillin and amoxycillin. The method is based on the strong enhancing effects of these antibiotics on the luminol–periodate reaction. The present method allows the measurements of ampicil
