cyminum (as 18 : l), M. peltah, G. cambogia and Cubeba offm'mlis oils. We have not established the absolute identity of 18 : 1 acid as oleic or petrosehc acid in case of C. qminum species in this investigation.

Oils which have over 60 O/o of linoleic and/or linolenic acid may be of value as drying oils. In this category, only two oils, Citnrllus coh.ynthis and A . longiflia deserve mention as being linoleic-rich (>61 Yo). The combined oleic-linoleic content was found >61 Yo in four species, of whch G. cambogia and C. qminum contained these acids in very h g h amount (93% and 92.6 Yo, respectively). Characteristic drying acid, linolenic was present in all the species except S. spinosa, maximum amount (16.6Yo) being in C. offkinalis oil. Palmitoleic acid was present in all the species ranging from 0.3-4.0°/o except G. cambogia oil. We were unable to identify an acid being 5.2% in case of M. peltah seed oil.

Few comments can be made on comparing our results with the earlier findings reported in the text. C. colocynthis seed oil analyzed by us, had the fatty acid composition which resembled well with the earlier reports 4,5 on another species of this '
