Copper(II) triflate catalyzes efficiently the three-component condensation reaction of an aldehyde, b-ketoester and urea in acetonitrile to afford the corresponding 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones in high yields. The catalyst exhibited remarkable reusable activity.
