✦ Synopsis

Measurements of the critical properties p , , and T for the pure substances CO , CHF , c c c 2 3 Ž . Ž . SF , and for CO q CHF and CHF q SF were performed by observation of the critical

opalescence in a static equilibrium cell. The experimental data were compared to values given in the literature. The experimental results for the binary mixtures are described by the Peng-Robinson equation of state, using only the experimental data for the critical pressure and the critical temperature of the pure components and of one mixture of nearly equal amounts of substance. For the binary systems investigated, this equation of state describes the critical loci, the vapour᎐liquid equilibrium, and the dependence of the supercritical density on temperature and pressure rather well.

A variety of relative and absolute techniques have been used to measure the reactivity of fluorine atoms with a series of halogenated organic compounds and CO. The following rate constants were derived, in units of cm3 molecule-' s-l: CH3F, (3.7 2 0.8) X CH3C1, (3.3 2 0.71 X 10 -'I; CH3Br, (3.0 2 0.
