โœฆ Synopsis

This article presents an analytical method for controlling the chaos in two nonlinear bistable optical resonators. The devices are a bulk cavity ring oscillator and a nonlinear simple ยฎbre ring resonator. It is shown that there is a trade-o between ยฏexibility and controllability in such devices. For the ยฎrst time, as far as the authors are aware, theoretical studies have shown that by controlling the chaos within a bistable region it becomes possible to use a previously unstable device as a bistable resonator.

An algorithm, based on fuzzy logic, for controlling chaos in a nonlinear fiber ring resonator is presented. The main adยจantage of using fuzzy logic is the aยจoidance of knowing the nonlinear differential equation that models the resonator. The algorithm is described, simulations are performed, and th
