Abstract

Reactions of aldehyde arylhydrazones (1) with nitric oxide in the presence of trace oxygen gave exclusively (E)‐C(1′)‐nitrohydrazones (2) in high yield. The structure of products was confirmed by NMR, IR, MS and X‐ray crystallography. The reaction is assumed to be initiated by addition of NO~2~ to the imine double.
