With the user, for the user". This legendary saying of Ernst Leitz I, who introduced industrial production in his optics company in Wetzlar over a hundred years ago, thereby preparing it for the world market, is still a motto of the successor company Leica Microsystems today. On the basis of this claim, the company is launching a new branding campaign. The new campaign is based on five values for which the company would like to be recognised: Pioneering, High-end Quality, Team Spirit, Dedication to Science, and Continuous Improvement. "These five values connect us with life," explains the company's President Dr. David Martyr, at the start of the campaign. www.leica-microsystems.com Leica Microsystems: Stefan Traeger Managing Director With three newly defined Strategic Business Units, a new Managing Director and an expanded product portfolio, the Life Science Division of Leica Microsystems is reinforcing its world market position in life sciences. Dr. Stefan Traeger, the newly appointed Managing Director of Leica Microsystems CMS, announced that the company's Life Science Division will be organised in three Strategic Business Units: Life Science Research, Clinical Imaging, and Nanotechnology. This is to enable the division to provide its systems and custom applications in a targeted manner to support the customer segments of biological research, microscopy in clinical environments, and sample preparation for electron microscopy. www.leica-microsystems.com 4Pi Microscopy of the Nuclear Pore Complex J.
HΓΌve and her colleagues used two photon 4Pi microscopy to study features of single protein complexes by super-resolution microscopy. For this they imaged immuno-labelled nuclear pore complexes in mammalian cells with resolution in z of <130 nm. Using antibodies against different epitopes as well as GFP fusions, distances <100 nm inside single nuclear pore complexes could be measured by two color detection.
