✦ Synopsis
Using a semiclassical model it is shown that the calcuiations cf Stettler and Witriol, which purport to show that short range forces are responsible for the large aoss secttins. and their inverse temperature dependence, of resonant vibrational energy transfer, involve fallacious arguments. The limits of applicability of the impact parameter approximation, and of the perturbation approximation are discussed. in so far as they affect the validity of their model.
