Accurate quantum-mechanical vakres of the collision-induced absorption coefficient are reported for a Ne-Ar mixture in the binarycollision approximation. Two of the known expressions for the induced dipole moment are tested and two others are proposed to obtain good nyeement with experiment.
Microwave absorption has been detected in a Ne-Kr gas mixture near 4.4 cm-' and is in reasonable agreement with an extrapolation of the infrared results. XIe experimental conditions were su& that intercollision effects appear to be significant.
