Total Syntheses of Vancomycin and Eremomycin Aglycons.

-Vancomycin aglycon (Ia) is obtained in 40 steps (longest linear sequence) from 3,5-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol (via amino acid 7). Eremomycin aglycon (Ib) is also successfully synthesized through an identical strategy.
