✦ Synopsis

In order to prepare new tacrine-like compounds, the title compounds (VII), (X) and (XV) are synthesized. The synthetic pathway to (VII) represents a shorter and more suitable approach to prepare tacrine metabolites. An alternative route from (VIb) to compound (VIII), which exhibits very strong DNA binding affinity, is developed.
