-By employing the "Hideg-modification" of the Biginelli reaction a number of 1,4-dihydropyrimidines (IV) (8 examples) is prepared from the ketoester (I), the isourea (II) (used as hydrogensulfate) and aldehydes (II). They can be readily demethylated to the dihydropyrimidones (V) which can be also obtained by the classical acid-catalyzed Biginelli condensation with urea.
