✦ Synopsis

Synthesis and Magnetic Properties of LnFe 10 Si 2 Zx (Z: N, H and Ln: Tb, Er).

-Single-phase products of LnFe 10 Si 2 are synthesized by a reduction-diffusion process from iron, silicon and Er 2 O 3 or Tb 4 O 7 together with excess calcium hydride (1. 950 β€’ C, 2 h, 2. 1100 β€’ C, 2.5 h). The nitrogen interstitial compounds are obtained by direct reaction with nitrogen at high pressure. The introduction of nitrogen changes the easy magnetization direction from the basal plane to the c-axis for TbFe 10 Si 2 and from the c-axis to the basal plane for ErFe 10
