Synthesis and 5α-Reductase Inhibitory Activities of Benzofuran Derivatives with a Carbamoyl Group.

-5-Carbamoyl (VII) and 6-carbamoyl derivatives (XI) are prepared and found to show inhibitory activity of human 5α-reductase. The key step furan ring cyclization occurs by using HCl, cf. product (V), or pyridinium chloride, cf. compound (IX).
