Reduction of 9-Substituted Acridines with Nickel-Aluminum Alloy.

-Octahydroacridines (IV) and dihydroacridines (II) are obtained as major products by treatment of acridines (I) with Ni-Al alloy in acidic solution. The yields strongly depend upon the C-9 substituent and the pH of the reaction medium.
