Metamagnetic Behavior of La1-xGdxFe12B6 Compounds.

-High-field magnetic measurements show that LaFe12B6 is a compound with Fe moments close to magnetic instability with values not larger than 0. 5 Β΅B in zero field. Partial substitution of Gd for La and application of high magnetic fields enhances the Fe moment to values ΒΏ 2 Β΅B. The high-moment state is reached via a metamagnetic transition. This first-order transition is characterized by a large hysteresis of β‰ˆ7 T.
